Setting up Microsoft Outlook 2002/XP
Outlook 2002/XP will start an Email Wizard when first opened if
you don't have an email account already configured. Follow the steps they provide to set
up your account.
Use mail.bigstring.com for your incoming (POP3) and outgoing
(SMTP) mail server.
When prompted for your username, make sure to use your full email address. (i.e. johndoe@bigstring.com)
Also, if you see a box marked "Secure Password Authentication," please let it remain unchecked.
- From the Tools menu, select "Email Accounts..."
- Check "View or change existing e-mail accounts." If you haven't yet set up an
account, do so by clicking "Add a new e-mail account" and following the Wizard's steps.
- In the window that opens, select the account you wish to change and click "Change..."
- Click the "More Settings..." button
- Click the "Outgoing Server" tab
- Check the box which says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and
check "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
- Click OK, then Next, and Finish to accept the changes and close all the dialog boxes,
and proceed to use your email.
