Email Client Setup and Bigstring Integration
Q: What is an "Email Client"?

A: An email client is a program like Outlook that sends and receives email messages to a computer.

Web mail, such as the Bigstring website, is a look at your email messages as they reside on a server. With an email client, you can receive those messages directly into a program designed for viewing and sending messages.

This guide will focus on using an email client to send and receive email through your email client of choice.

  • For instructions on sending a recallable email through our web mail interface, please reference our 3-step guide here

  • For instructions on editing a sent recallable email please reference our Editing Sent Recallable Email Guide.

1. Set up your client to send and receive email through Bigstring

First we must set up the client of choice to send and receive through the Bigstring servers.

2. Set your preferences on the Bigstring website.

When the default preferences are set up for your bigstring account they affect every email that you send from your email client. You can change these preferences at any time.

So lets say you have "Always send recallable" set to "Yes" in your preferences. When you send an email from Outlook Express for example, it will be sent as a dynamic recallable, editable, email! Please note that this guide does not go in-depth about all of the controls available to you.

You can access the Default Preferences for your account by logging in to the Bigstring website with your registered @bigstring.com email address

Once logged in you will see a toolbar with several links. Select "Preferences".

For the purpose of this guide, go ahead and make at least one change to your preferences. Set your "Always Send Recallable" preference to "Yes". Once you have this set, send yourself a couple of emails from your email client to verify you can successfully send email.

Since you have set your default preference for sending recallable to "Yes" your messages are transformed at the server into a dynamic recallable email that you now have complete control over.

3. Viewing and Controlling Recallable Email Sent from your Client

To control your sent mail you will need to log into the Bigstring website.
Once logged in, click "Edit Sent Mail".

In this screen you will see an overview of your recallable sent mail. Notice here that one of your emails sent have been read and the other is still Waiting. There is no fooling the Bigstring email system. Now you know FOR SURE that your email has been viewed by the recipient.

4. This is Just the Beginnng!

You still have many controls at your disposal.

You can:

  • Delete the message entirely
  • Swap out an attachment
  • Remove an attachment
  • Make the message non-printable
  • Make the message non-save able (no right-click and "Save As")
  • Edit the text inside the message
  • Limit the number of times the email can be viewed
  • Set the message to self-destruct after a certain time period
And much more!
Although these options are available as defaults to you in Preferences, you can also edit a sent message on an individual basis using any of the Bigstring email controls!

Access our guide on "Editing Sent Recallable Email" for how-to's on these exciting controls.

Now you are in total control of your email!
